The “Christmas candle is lit on the evening of December 24 and burned until morning.
On 24 December, before a meal all children have directed our gaze to the sky because they await the appearance of the first star before we do this table. The star announced the debut of the party. In preparation for the Christmas table, it slid from the chaff below the water as a reminder that Jesus was born in a barn. Before we begin the meal, all share the pain azyme (oplatek), marked with scenes of the Nativity, with each other by offering their best wishes. There are similar practices in Lithuania. Meals on December 24 is thin (no meat), since Christmas Eve, it is fast. It is the meal of Dec. 25. That gives rise to the festivities with a turkey stuffed.
The tradition of the Christmas crib arrived in Poland with Franciscan thirteenth century. The nursery has two floors: the Nativity above and below the national heroes. The manger of Krakow is a very remarkable synthesis of the city, it is its soul and its charm, but also the hope brought by Christmas.
Gifts are given to children at the feast of Saint Nicolas on December 6.
